Customers' data from banks in denmark protected in the cloud.

With around 1,600 employees based in Roskilde, BEC Financial Technologies work to deliver IT solutions to Danish banks such as Nykredit, Arbejdernes Landsbank and Spar Nord. BEC’s IT solutions handle DKK 2.1 million active bank customers and 6.3 million active bank accounts for over 25 banks, who therefore deeply depend on BEC's cyber security. 

BEC and the BEC banks implemented the cloud platform Salesforce, aiming to reinforce the banks' relationships and communications with their customers.

The platform handles large amounts of data, often including sensitive information about customers' personal finances, which passes between the banks and their customers. It is therefore crucial for BEC to protect this data and at the same time the data remains clean from malicious code.

“Many people believe that Salesforce is responsible for all security. However, aspects of security are left to ourselves - e.g., when files change hands. Therefore, we must make sure to security scan everything that comes in and out of the system,” explains Tonny Rabjerg, Program Director at BEC.

BEC surveyed three providers of IT security solutions and in February 2021, selected WithSecure™ Cloud Protection for Salesforce.

“We chose WithSecure™ because they are a serious supplier that meets all our compliance requirements. In addition, they were recommended by Salesforce because their software can be implemented easily and quickly. It's almost a plug-and-play solution,” says Tonny Rabjerg.

“The collaboration with WithSecure™ has been good throughout the whole process. It is not uncommon for me to get involved in implementation projects because something isn't running as it should, but this time it has been completely smooth,” he says.

WithSecure™ Cloud Protection for Salesforce scans all emails and documents in real time when they are received and sent, such as when a bank adviser has to send a contract to their client. Although the software analyzes data in real time, Tonny Rabjerg has not seen processes delayed or efficiency reduced.

“The bank advisers don't notice that advanced scanning is in progress while they are working. Of course, it's a great advantage that our IT security doesn't become a source of irritation,” he says.

In addition, It is a great advantage to BEC that the Salesforce security solution does not require major updates, as has been seen before with non-cloud-based solutions.

With WithSecure™ Cloud Protection for Salesforce, the system is automatically updated without affecting operations and without BEC having to do anything manually.
